Local company, TswanaFuel has fuelled the winner of the recent Muddy Face Botswana, Giants Adventure Rally to further his rally career by sponsoring the winner P25 000 towards his entry to the next rally. Rookie rider, Jacques Burger (PICTURED ABOVE ON THE RIGHT), has gone on to enter the Crono Rally in South Africa thanks to TswanaFuel and Muddy Face Botswana. The Giants Adventure Rally was the opening rally of the year held in March of this year. It traversed a distance of 1 000+ kilometres from Gaborone to the Tuli Block. The event featured routes and tracks that wound through the private farms along the Limpopo River, created and set by two Botswana riders, Ross Branch and John Kelly.

“It was my first rally event (Giants Adventure Rally) and boy was I nervous. Having to learn all the lexicons in rally navigation the week before and my wife laughing at me for studying on our way to the event added to the race fever and excitement,” commented Burger. He went on to say that the Giants Adventure Rally was extremely well balanced between competitiveness and social aspects. “Sleeping in a different location each night while riding your bike through uncharted territory with the unknown around each corner is what made this race such a special one,” added Burger.

In 2021, TswanaFuel joined forces with Muddy Face Botswana to create the GoRally programme, whereby the two local companies assist riders further their rally careers. This was initially done with the purchase of Electronic Roadbook units which can be hired from Muddy Face Botswana for standard off road bikes to use to practice the technique of roadbook navigation. The additional element of the programme was to assist an up-coming rider get to the next rally, this with the prize of P25 000 towards his/her entry fee to the next rally. “We are proud to be part of sport in Botswana and the development of such an up-coming sport in the country. We have seen how local rider Ross Branch has flown the African flag high and we would like to see more riders do the same,” said Dries Oberholzer, TswanaFuel Chief Operations Officer.

creating opportunity for more rally riders to come out of botswana!

“Rallying is an expensive sport and requires a huge amount of dedication and preparation. Thanks to TswanaFuel and Muddy Face Botswana, I look forward to my next challenge, the Crono Rally in Springbok from 29 July to 1 August,” remarked Burger.

The Crono Rally will cover a distance of 2 000 kilometres with tracks and routes that wind through the desert of Springbok, a good warm up to what will come in future rallies.

The next Muddy Face Botswana rally is the Plains Adventure Rally, held in the Boteti region on 29 September – 2 October 2022. It will cover a distance of approximately 800km. More information on this event can be found on the Muddy Face Botswana website at www.muddyfacebotswana.co.bw.
