Info for the rider/driver
A 1-of-a-kind adventure over 3 days, navigating through Mophane forests, thick Maun sand, PRIVATE CONCESSION LAND, and then a trek ALONG the BOTETI AND THAMALAKANE RIVERS.
In an epic new migration of man (women) and machine, every rider and driver will face the challenge of having to traverse large distances. More than 800km in fact! A 1-of-a-kind adventure over 3 days, navigating through Mophane forests, thick Maun sand, Private concession land, and then a trek along the Boteti and Thamalakane Rivers.

Opening and Closing Ceremony
The opening ceremony will be held on 29 September 2022, in Maun. Black Mamba Man will be on tour with us throughout the event and will entertain you every evening around the campfire.
The opening ceremony will be held at Crocodile Camp Safari & Spa and the closing ceremony at Sitatunga Camp on Sunday 2 October.
Distances
Riders will cover approximately 800km on this trip over 3 days. Day 1 will follow the Thamalakane River to the north of Maun, into private concession land. And then to Leopards Plains, which will be our base for two nights. A special Leopard Plains loop will be set for Day 2 and Day 3 will take riders along the Boteti River up to Sitatunga Camp. More info will be sent out closer to the time.
Back-Up Vehicle
Muddy Face Botswana has partnered with Motul Botswana to provide a full back-up crew for the Plains Adventure Rally, so those who do not have a back-up crew, no need for panic, your bags and gear will be taken to the next stop by the Motul Botswana crew.
If you have your own back-up crew they can join us and see you at the re-fuel points.
Medic Crew
Rescue One will be our medical crew and will assist in any injuries during the rally. Any emergencies will either be taken to Maun evacuation to a facility equipped to deal with the injury.
We do advise participants to ensure they have medical aid to cover any of these added expenses, as we will not be held liable for injuries.
Briefing
The initial briefing will be held in Maun on 29 September at 5pm. Thereafter there will be a daily briefing before the start of each day.
All riders and drivers need to be at every briefing.
Roadbook and GPS Categories
Choose between using a roadbook or a GPS as your navigational tool, or use both.
Roadbooks and GPS maps will be provided at documentation on 29 September.
Fuel Carrier and Points
Tswana Fuels will carry fuel for participants up to a total of 1000l. We do advise that participants bring fuel in containers to go on the Motul Botswana back-up vehicles.
There will be a fuel stop every 50km that your back-up crew can meet you at or the Motul Botswana crew will be there to assist with your re-fuel.
Water will also be available.
FUEL IS PROVIDED FOR THE WHOLE WEEKEND, THANKS TO TSWANAFUEL, YOU JUST BRING YOUR CONTAINERS.
Tracking Units
Each participating vehicle will be given a tracking unit. This is to ensure all participants are safe and that no-one is lost or left behind.
The unit works on GSM and Satellite which means even in areas with no mobile signal we will still be able to find you.
Please note that these are only for participating vehicles NOT for back-up crews.
The Adventurer
